Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Malé, Maldives, on Friday, as part of the second leg of his two-nation visit. What made this moment historic? A grand red carpet welcome by President Mohamed Muizzu himself, complete with a 21-gun salute, honor guards, and warm embraces — proving that India-Maldives relations are back on track in a big way.

This marks PM Modi’s third visit to the Maldives, and his first under President Muizzu’s leadership — a leader who once campaigned with an “India Out” stance, now personally receiving the Indian PM with full state honors. The message is clear: New beginnings, renewed trust.

PM Modi is also attending the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives as the Guest of Honour, symbolizing 60 years of India–Maldives diplomatic ties.
